Biography
Tesfaye Negusse is a contemporary Ethiopian visual artist known for his expressive paintings, cultural storytelling, and dedication to promoting African art across international communities. Born in Wonji, East Shoa, Ethiopia, Tesfaye discovered his artistic passion at an early age, inspired by the beauty of Ethiopian traditions, everyday life, spirituality, and human emotion. His artistic journey later led him to pursue formal education in fine arts, where he developed a unique visual language that combines color, movement, symbolism, and social reflection.
Tesfaye earned a Diploma in Fine Arts from Addis Ababa University Alle School of Fine Arts and Design in 1998. During his years of study, he refined his technical skills while exploring modern and traditional African artistic expressions. His work gradually gained recognition for its emotional depth, strong compositions, and ability to communicate universal human experiences beyond language and culture.
Over the course of his career, Tesfaye has established a respected reputation both in Ethiopia and internationally. He has presented more than 25 solo exhibitions and participated in over 46 group exhibitions throughout Ethiopia, Europe, and the United States. His exhibitions reflect his commitment to cultural exchange and his desire to connect communities through art. His paintings often explore themes of identity, heritage, migration, spirituality, unity, and the resilience of humanity.

Creative Philosophy
Art has got a universal language translating its message not only by engaging one’s eyes but also all other senses, including the imaginative aspect of the sixth sense which one can’t easily describe. Through my artistically breathtaking pieces I just want to share the awakening passion, alchemic experiences and my deepest thought regarding the globe.

Exhibitions & Collections
Tesfaye's artworks have been exhibited in important cultural institutions, galleries, museums, and international art spaces. In Ethiopia, his work has been shown at the Addis Ababa Museum, the National Museum of Contemporary Ethiopian Art, Alliance Ethio-Française, Russian Cultural Center, Pan-African Gallery, Abyssinia Art Studio, and the Sheraton Addis. His work has also been presented through exhibitions hosted by embassies and international organizations, including the Ireland Embassy, Bulgaria Embassy, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
Internationally, Tesfaye's paintings have reached audiences across Europe and the United States. His work has been exhibited at Pacific Art Center in Los Angeles, Anka Huma Gallery in Brussels, Belgium, the Vermont Studio Center in New York, and numerous cultural centers and galleries throughout the American South. His exhibitions in cities such as Atlanta, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington DC, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport have introduced Ethiopian contemporary art to diverse audiences and strengthened cultural connections within diaspora communities.
In Atlanta, Georgia, Tesfaye has become widely recognized for his continued artistic involvement within the Ethiopian and African-American communities. His exhibitions have been featured at Hanazeb Ethiopian Art Gallery, Medallion Studio, Clarkston Community Center, Bole Ethiopian Restaurant, Marriott Marquis Atlanta, and multiple annual Adwa celebrations organized by the Atlanta Ethiopian Community. He has also participated in exhibitions at Hilton Hotel Washington DC, Lisa Art Gallery in New Orleans, Republic NOLA, Seattle Ethiopian Community events, and Hilltop Event Center in Minnesota.
Tesfaye Negusse's paintings are represented in both private and institutional collections. His collectors appreciate the emotional power, vibrant colors, and cultural authenticity found throughout his work. Through every exhibition and artistic project, he continues to promote Ethiopian culture, inspire younger generations of artists, and contribute to the global contemporary African art movement.
